The Peacock Gudgeon (Tateurndina ocellicauda) is a very colorful little freshwater goby. The body is bluish-silver with pink, yellow and black markings along the body and fins. When mature, males will develop a hump on their head and females have a black trim on the anal fin. Males will become especially colorful during the breeding phase and a mixture of males and females is best for true coloration and behavior in a larger planted tank. In smaller tanks, one pair is best.
These gobies will eat most meaty foods offered. A variety of frozen or fresh foods like brine shrimp, mysis, daphnia and nutritious flakes or tiny pellets will give the best color and nutritional value.
These fish have been successfully bred by aquarists. They will normally lay the eggs in grassy areas, but this can be substituted with material like a nylon mop. Water conditions must be ideal and special food must be offered to the fry.
